An ULLAS exam is part of India’s New India Literacy Programme (NILP), also known as the ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram. This government initiative aims to provide foundational literacy and numeracy to adults aged 15 and above who missed formal schooling. The scheme uses volunteerism and includes a Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT) to assess and certify learners. What ULLAS is about:Purpose: To achieve “Jan Jan Saakshar” (literacy for every person), focusing on adults who missed out on basic education. Target Audience: Non-literates aged 15 and above. Implementation: Implemented through volunteers and literacy centers called Sami Chetan Kendra. Resources: Learners can access content through the DIKSHA portal and the ULLAS mobile app/portal. The Exam (FLNAT):What it is: The Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT) is a nationwide assessment conducted under the ULLAS scheme. Purpose: To evaluate the literacy and numeracy skills of the participants and award certificates. Significance: The certificates awarded help to boost the confidence and motivation of the learners. Key Points:ULLAS is a centrally sponsored scheme approved for implementation from FY 2022-2027. It is designed to provide basic education, critical life skills, and continuing education to adult learners. The program is aligned with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
